Law Office of Christy Lai

Attorney Profile

Christy Lai has been practicing law since 2005. She is an experienced estate planning lawyer, with a focus on special needs planning, supported decision making, and limited conservatorships.

Christy began her career working on intellectual property transactions, with the firm now known as A&O Shearman, and later as in-house counsel. Then, through a lucky encounter with the Pomeroy Center’s OneCenter day program for adults with developmental disabilities, while she took her young children to swimming lessons, she was able to come full circle and fulfill her initial career wish of working with individuals with developmental disabilities.

She took a hiatus from the practice of law and worked, first as a volunteer, then as staff at the Pomeroy Center. Christy returned to the legal field with renewed conviction, developing her expertise in special needs trusts and planning, supported decision making, limited conservatorships, and settlement planning, while most appreciating the opportunity to listen, discover, and understand each person that she interacts with as an individual.

Christy earned her JD in 2005 from the University of California Berkeley School of Law. Prior to that, she graduated in 2002 from Columbia University with a double major in English and Computer Science. Her greatest lessons in communication were learned during person-centered thinking sessions at the Pomeroy Center, where she learned from participants and staff.

The Law Office of Christy Lai is the embodiment of her dream to provide compassionate, person-centered legal services in the area of probate to people of all income levels and ages.
